Ballet for Everybody

1. Is Ballet for Everybody suitable for complete beginners?

Absolutely! No dance experience is needed.

Ballet for Everybody is a welcoming space for adults to discover the joy of ballet.

While ballet has a rich tradition of technique and artistry, you can enjoy it from your very first class.

Together, we'll gently explore the foundations of classical ballet at a comfortable & enjoyable pace.

Simply come as you are.

2. Am I too old to start ballet?

Not at all! You can begin and enjoy ballet at any age.

You don't need to be young, flexible or graceful to experience the pleasure and benefits of ballet.

Research shows that ballet can support physical wellbeing, body awareness and a renewed sense of vitality.

It's never too late to discover the joy of dancing!

3. What happens in a class?

Each class is inclusive, relaxed and well-structured. Classes begin with exercises at the barre, followed by gentle stretches and movement sequences in the centre of the floor.

We'll explore the foundations of ballet, including posture, alignment, coordination and graceful lines.

I emphasise sensing and understanding ballet through your own body, rather than simply copying movements. We'll explore the connection between breath, movement and music, with enjoyment at the heart of every class.

4. What are the benefits of ballet for body and mind?

Ballet brings together physical movement, mindful attention and creative expression.

With regular practice, ballet can help you:

  • Improve posture, balance, coordination and flexibility.

  • Build core strength, muscle tone and body awareness.

  • Engage your memory and focus.

  • Find moments of calm and mindfulness through movement.

  • Experience the joy of music, creativity and dancing with others.

As you move to beautiful music, everyday worries can fade into the background.

Come away feeling brighter, more energised and connected to your body!

5. I'm not very flexible or coordinated. Can I still join?

Of course! Our bodies are unique and there's no need to achieve a particular level of flexibility or coordination before joining.

With gentle, regular practice, you'll gradually develop greater ease, strength and confidence in your movement.

I encourage you to listen to your body, respect your own range of movement and progress at your own pace.

What matters most is enjoying the exploration.

6. Do I need ballet shoes or special clothing

No special clothing is required. Simply wear something comfortable that allows you to move freely.

For regular classes, I recommend treating yourself to a pair of ballet flats. They're specially designed to allow your feet to move comfortably, while helping you feel the floor.

I'm happy to suggest where to find ballet shoes.

7. What if I have an injury or physical limitations?

Everyone's body is different, and I encourage you to listen to yours.

Please let me know before your first class about any injuries or other restrictions. This would help me to provide tailored adjustments so you can still participate and enjoy the experience.

8. What if I'm nervous about joining?

It's natural to feel a little nervous when trying something new, especially ballet!

You'll be welcomed into a small, friendly and non-judgmental group, with clear guidance and plenty of encouragement. We'll revisit familiar exercises each week, allowing you to gradually build confidence, familiarity and ease in your movements. New elements will be introduced gently.

Ballet for Everybody is about exploration and enjoyment, not perfection or performance. We celebrate the unique qualities and movement journeys that each person brings.

Come as you are, and discover the joy of moving to music.
